Yesterday, President Trump signed an executive order directing the construction of a wall on the US-Mexico border and expanding immigration enforcement efforts. Today, President Trump signed an executive order restricting immigration from a number of Middle Eastern and African countries, temporarily barring most refugees from entry to the United States, and blocking visas from being issued to citizens of Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen.

“Trump’s actualization of his long-promised discriminatory policies in his first days of office will further divide our nation,” said CAIR-LA's Executive Director Hussam Ayloush. “His 'Muslim Ban' executive orders with tarnish the image of Islam, harm and further isolate the American-Muslim community and drive us further away from establishing meaningful partnerships with the Muslim World.”

During a news conference yesterday afternoon at its Capitol Hill headquarters in Washington, D.C., CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad said: “The ban on travelers from Muslim-majority and Middle Eastern nations, as well as the construction of a multi-billion-dollar monument to racism on our border with Mexico, and the appropriation of sacred Native-American lands flies in the face of the American values of religious and ethnic inclusion that we all hold dear.â€
