CAIR-MA Offers Reward for Info on Arsonist Targeting Chabad Centers

(BOSTON, MA, 5/17/19) – The Massachusetts chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MA) today offered a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons who set fires at the Chabad Centers in Arlington and Needham.  Fires were set outside the Chabad Center for Jewish Life Arlington – Belmont, where Rabbi Avi Bukiet and his family live, first on May 11 and again on Thursday night.  A short time later, a third fire was discovered at the Chabad Jewish Center in Needham.

“CAIR-MA condemns these cowardly attacks on the Chabad Centers,” said CAIR-MA Executive Director Dr. John Robbins. “While an attack on any house of worship must be condemned, it is especially appalling when a family is threatened in their own home.  We are offering this award in the hope of helping to bring the perpetrators to justice.”

“I’m an Arlington resident myself,” said Barbara J. Dougan, CAIR-MA’s Civil Rights Director. “To the perpetrator(s), know that you do not reflect the values of this community.  You do not act for us.  You may skulk about under cover of darkness, attacking Jewish institutions and families, but the rest of us support our Jewish neighbors in the full light of the sun.”

The Arlington police have released a video of a person seen leaving the scene shortly after the fire was set.  Anyone with information should call the Arlington police at 781-643-1212.
