The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today marked the 31st anniversary of the Srebrenica Genocide.
Thirty-one years after Bosnian Serb forces overran the UN-declared “safe area” of Srebrenica on July 11, 1995 and committed a massacre of thousands of Muslim Bosniak men and boys, the remains of more than 1,000 victims are yet to be found. The total number of victims recovered from mass graves so far is 8,372. A ceremony to honor the victims of the genocide is set to be held tomorrow.

In a statement, CAIR said:
“To God we belong, and to Him we return. Thirty-one years ago, over 8,000 Bosniak men and boys were slaughtered for no reason other than the fact that they were Muslims. The evil ideology of anti-Muslim hate that inspired this atrocity is alive and well and inspiring similar atrocities in Gaza, Lebanon, Iran, Myanmar, India China and elsewhere. The ideology of the butchers of Srebrenica is now being promoted by some of the most powerful governments and institutions in the world. As we pray for the thousands killed in Srebrenica and their families, many of whom have still not been able to find the remains of their loved ones to give them a proper burial, we call on all people of conscience to repudiate the evil of anti-Musllim bigotry and to oppose the genocides being committed today as a result of it.”
