(WASHINGTON, D.C., 1/27/2023) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today marked International Holocaust Remembrance Day by expressing its solidarity with the Jewish community against the antisemitism that motivated the Holocaust and that continues to spark hate crimes to this day.
[NOTE: United Nations Resolution 60/7 established January 27 as International Holocaust Remembrance Day.]
In a statement, CAIR Executive Director Nihad Awad said:
“As we remember the over six million Jewish men, women and children murdered in the Holocaust, we recognize that the same form of hatred that inspired that horrific genocide persists in our nation and elsewhere. American Muslims stand in solidarity with the Jewish community against this hatred. All communities of faith should come together in clear repudiation of antisemitism and the other forms of bigotry that threaten our communities.”
Awad said Washington, D.C.-based CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, and white supremacy.
