(BOSTON, MA, 4/8/2022) – The Massachusetts chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Massachusetts) today condemned a reported phoned bomb threat targeting the Alhuda Academy at the Worcester Islamic Center on Thursday.
Police searched the area of the center but found nothing suspicious. The threatening calls came from one phone number, police said. The threat is under investigation by the Joint Terrorism Task Force. Worcester police says they will have added patrols at religious institutions during Passover, Easter and Ramadan.
“We condemn this alleged threat targeting a school and house of worship and thank law enforcement authorities for swiftly investigating this incident and stepping up patrols in the area,” said CAIR-Massachusetts Executive Director Tahirah Amatul-Wadud. “All Americans must be free to practice their faith without fear or intimidation.”
Shesaid the American Muslim community and CAIR stand in solidarity with all those challenging anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, antisemitism, white supremacy and all other forms of bigotry.
Amatul-Wadud said CAIR is repeating its suggestion that houses of worship take extra security precautions using its “Best Practices for Mosque and Community Safety” booklet. The advice in CAIR’s security publication is applicable to religious institutions of all faiths.
