(BOSTON, MA, 7/29/2022) – The Massachusetts chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MA), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed the signing into law of a bill banning discrimination on the basis of hairstyle.
That law makes it illegal to discriminate on the basis of hair texture, type and style in schools, workplaces, housing, and businesses.

“No one should experience discrimination on the basis of their hairstyle,” said CAIR-MA Executive Director Tahirah Amatul-Wadud. “We thank Governor Baker for signing this bill into law.”
She noted that in March, CAIR-MA welcomed the passage of the bill by the state House of Representatives.
