The Maryland office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today congratulated Sara Hamdaoui, a junior at Crofton High School, on her election as the 2026–2027 Student Member of the Anne Arundel County Board of Education (SMOB).
Hamdaoui was elected by members of the Chesapeake Regional Association of Student Councils (CRASC), reflecting strong support from student leaders across Anne Arundel County. In her new role, she will serve as a vital voice for students, helping shape education policy and representing the interests, concerns, and aspirations of her peers.
In a statement, CAIR Maryland said:
“Sarah Hamdaoui’s election is a powerful example of the leadership, civic engagement, and excellence that young people in our community bring to public service. We applaud her commitment to representing students across Anne Arundel County and are confident she will serve with integrity, insight, and compassion.”
CAIR Maryland also noted the importance of student representation in decision-making spaces, particularly at a time when young people are increasingly engaged in shaping conversations around education, equity, and opportunity.
“Student voices matter,” the organization added. “When young leaders like Sara step forward, they not only strengthen our schools, but also help build a more inclusive and representative future for all.”
CAIR encourages continued civic engagement among Muslim youth and all students across the state, emphasizing that leadership opportunities such as the SMOB role play a critical part in developing the next generation of public servants.
