CAIR-MI Calls for the Removal of Warren Official Over Anti-Muslim Comments

(FARMINGTON HILLS, MI, 5/23/2018) – The Michigan chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MI) today called on the Warren City Council and mayor to remove a Warren Elected Officials Compensation Commission member for anti-Muslims comments made on social media.

A concerned community member alerted CAIR-MI to a Facebook post made yesterday by Commission member Diane Delisio-Kozlowski stating “ISLAM IS HATE” in reference to the tragedy of 9/11 and seeking to deflect attention from mass shootings that have taken place nationwide over the past year.

In the past, Delisio-Kozlowski used her social media for posting anti-Muslim comments, which include “get them [Muslims] out of our country” as well as delving into debunked conspiracy theories that former President Barack Obama was a clandestine Muslim.

“We call on the Warren City Council and Mayor Fouts to take swift action in removing Ms. Delisio-Kozlowski from the Elected Compensation Commission based on her anti-Muslim bigotry, which is unbecoming of a public official,” said CAIR-MI Executive Director Dawud Walid. “Warren taxpayers, who include Muslims, should not have someone holding such bigoted views determining the salaries of government officials of their city.”

CAIR is America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.

La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
