CAIR-MI Rep Keynotes Interfaith Event at Ford Headquarters

CAIR-logo(SOUTHFIELD, MI, 10/24/13) — A representative of the Michigan chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MI) yesterday served as keynote speaker at an annual interfaith event at Ford World Headquarters in Dearborn, Mich.

The Ford Interfaith Network's 13th annual event, titled “One Ford, One Community,” was held in recognition of the recent Islamic holiday of Eid al-Adha.

CAIR-MI Executive Director Dawud Walid focused on the history of Ford Motor Company being a pioneer in instituting equal pay for African-Americans and Arab-Americans in the early 20th century and how Islam calls for cooperation in goodness with all people, irrespective of ethnicity or national origin.

The event was attended by Ford Motor Company executives and staffers as well as representatives from local colleges and Christian and Jewish congregations.

“We welcome such opportunities to discuss the importance of renewing our commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion of people of varying faiths and ethnicities,” said Walid. Walid has also keynoted this prestigious event on two previous occasions.

CAIR is America's largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
