CAIR-Michigan to Announce Civil Rights Complaint Against Verizon Wireless

(FARMINGTON HILLS, MI, 12/6/2018) – On Friday, December 7, the Michigan chapter of Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MI), a chapter of the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, will hold a press conference to announce the filing of a Michigan Department of Civil Rights complaint against Verizon Wireless and Cellular and More on behalf of a Michigan Muslim woman.

The Muslim woman was allegedly kicked out of the Verizon Wireless Store, Cellular and More in Ann Arbor, Mich., after she was verbally assaulted by another customer about her Islamic faith.

Verizon Wireless has ignored several complaints from the woman, and numerous requests from CAIR-MI to discuss this matter, prompting CAIR-MI to file a formal complaint with the Michigan Department of Civil Rights.

The woman who was subjected to the verbal assault and ejected from the store will be present at the press conference.

Preliminary data for 2018 indicate that there have been 927 hate incidents targeting American Muslims.
