CAIR-Minnesota Calls for Hate Crime Probe of SUV Attack on Cold Spring Family’s Home

(MINNEAPOLIS, MN, 7/29/21) – The Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MN) today called on local, state, and federal law enforcement authorities to investigate a possible bias motive for an intentional SUV attack on the home of a Cold Spring, Minn., family.

For two months, the family has been the target of alleged racist harassment. On Saturday, a stolen SUV with a piece of granite on the accelerator crashed into their home, causing extensive damage. A child was sleeping just a short distance from where the vehicle crashed.

“We stand in solidarity with this family targeted by hate and ask state and federal authorities to investigate the attack as a hate crime,” said CAIR-MN Executive Director Jaylani Hussein. “Central Minnesota has become an epicenter for anti-black racism and islamophobia. That is why we call on faith and community leaders, as well as members of the public, to condemn this attack and to work toward challenging hate in the area.”

He said the American Muslim community and CAIR stand in solidarity with all those challenging anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, anti-Semitism, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.

CAIR’s mission is to enhance understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
