(ST. LOUIS, MO, 7/21/17) — On Sunday, July 23, The Palestine Solidarity Committee (PSC) and the Missouri Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MO) will hold a march in the Delmar Loop to call on Israel to end violence and allow for the free worship of Palestinians at Masjid Al-Aqsa, one of Islam’s holiest site.
WHAT: March to Call for Freedom of Worship in Jerusalem
WHEN: Sunday, July 23 at 7 P.M.
WHERE: The Delmar Loop, 6691 Delmar Blvd, St. Louis, MO 63130
CONTACT: CAIR-MO Executive Director Faizan Syed, 314-330-2946, firstname.lastname@example.org
A week ago Israel shut down and prevented worshippers from praying at Masjid Al-Aqsa and arrested Sheikh Mohammad Ahmed Hussein, a top Muslim leader, after a deadly shooting. Israel then shot the Imam of Masjid Al-Aqsa, installed invasive searches on worshippers and denied entry to males under the age of 50.
“We are calling for freedom of worship for all in Jerusalem,” said Faizan Syed, executive director of CAIR-Missouri. “Heavy-handed tactics are promoting violence in one of the holiest sites in the world and undermine the status quo at the Muslim-administered site.”
The march will include a rally followed by speeches from community leaders. Marchers will then go down Delmar Loop and return back to the original rally location. At sunset the Muslims will hold their sunset prayers and encourage peoples of all faiths to make prayers for a peaceful resolution to the current violence.
CAIR is America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
