minn-arrest-vid(MINNEAPOLIS, MN, 4/3/15) — The Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MN) today called on the U.S. Department of Justice to investigate a video of a Minneapolis, Minn., police officer apparently threatening to break the legs of a suspect if he attempted to escape.

The video, which was recorded by one of those involved in the incident, was posted on Twitter. In the video, the officer tells one suspect: “Plain and simple, if you (expletive) with me, I'm gonna break your legs before you get a chance to run.”

When one youth asks why he is being arrested, the officer responds: “Because I feel like arresting you.”

A police internal affairs investigation has been launched into the incident.

“This type of troubling incident only serves to harm the trust that is necessary between law enforcement officers and the community they serve and protect,†said CAIR-MN Executive Director Jaylani Hussein. “The Department of Justice should open an independent investigation of this case.â€
