CAIR-MN to Join Local Muslim Groups at Press Conference, Rally to Condemn Eritrean Government Killings

(MINNEAPOLIS, MN, 11/10/2017) – On Sunday, November 12, the Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MN) will join the Eritrean Muslim Community of Minnesota (EMCM) and other Minnesota Muslim organization at a press conference and rally at the capitol to Detest Eritrean Government Killings of peaceful protesters.  

Associated Press reported that 28 people have been killed and more than 100 people were injured recently in protests in Asmara, the capital of Eritrea. These protests occurred after the government closed down private schools in the capital. Students of those schools then took to the streets in a peaceful protest.

Relatives of the victims of those killed will be speaking at the protest and rally.

“We cannot turn away from this brutal attack on peaceful protesters in one of the world’s most reclusive nations,” said CAIR-MN Executive Director Jaylani Hussein.

“Our community is in shocked and horrified by the Eritrea government’s senseless killings,” said Eritrean Muslim Community of Minnesota (EMCM). “Our Eritrean Minnesota community is directly affected by this tragedy. We are asking our government to put pressure on the Eritrean government to end the violence.”
