CAIR-MN to Join Minnesota Coalition to Rebuild, Heal Immigrant Businesses in Twin Cities

(MINNEAPOLIS, MN, 06/04/20) – On Friday, June 5, the Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Minnesota) will take part in a news conference in Minneapolis to announce a fundraising initiative to rebuild and heal Immigrant businesses in the Twin Cities.

“In the aftermath of yet another high-profile police killing, we will strive to rebuild the businesses that have been traumatized by the chaos and ‘destruction,’ and by the impact of gentrification,” said CAIR-Minnesota Executive Director Jaylani Hussein.

The coalition fully supports the local movement for black lives and demands justice for George Floyd and others across our state and nation who have been killed by police brutality. We will do our part to make sure we have long-term solutions to eliminating state violence.

The fundraising is a joint effort between the African Development Center (ADC), African Economic Development Solutions (AEDS), Council on American-Islamic Relations – Minnesota Chapter (CAIR-Minnesota), and the Latino Economic Development Corporation (LEDC) in support of immigrant-owned businesses on Lake Street, Midway and across the Twin Cities.

CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
