CAIR: MUSLIMS VOLUNTEER AT WOMEN’S SHELTER
(WASHINGTON, D.C., 7/23/07) – On Sunday, July 22, almost a dozen young Muslim volunteers turned out at the Capitol Hill headquarters of the Council on American-Islamic Relations to prepare donation items for delivery to My Sister’s Place women’s shelter. Volunteers worked a four-hour shift packing and organizing donations.
My Sister’s Place, one of only two domestic violence women’s shelters in the D.C. area, works to end domestic abuse and helps victims rebuild their lives.
“It was refreshing to see young Muslims so dedicated to social activism and so willing to support community-based initiatives,” said CAIR Intern Maryam Jelvani, who organized the event.
