(SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ, 3/4/2022) – The New Jersey chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NJ) today said it has informed the FBI of an apparent online call for mass killings at mosques prompted by an alleged assault on a Paterson mosque muezzin (the one who calls the prayer). [NOTE: CAIR-NJ is not naming the hate site in order to deny its bigoted sponsor undeserved publicity.]
CAIR-NJ recently condemned that alleged assault by a Paterson resident and welcomed the Passaic County Prosecutor’s charges against the alleged attacker.
In a comment posted March 2 about an article published on a notorious anti-Muslim hate site that called the arrest of the alleged mosque assailant “outrageous,” an individual wrote in part:
“Coming soon (within a decade) to each and every neighborhood, town, and city all across the West, Eastern Europe, Latin America, and Asia, unless around 125 million Islamocritical, culturally and racially aware, pure-blooded White Christian Westerners and Eastern Europeans follow in the footsteps of Baruch Goldstein, Alexandre Bissonnette, and Brenton Tarrant, en masse and ASAP. Make no mistake, ‘the only ‘good’ Moslem is a dead one!’”
[NOTE: Baruch Goldstein murdered 29 Palestinians in a mosque in 1994. Alexandre Bissonnette killed 6 worshipers at a Canadian mosque in 2017. Brenton Tarrant massacred 51 people at mosques in New Zealand in 2019.]
In a statement, CAIR-NJ Executive Director Selaedin Maksut said:
“People of all faiths in our nation and worldwide have too often seen violent rhetoric turn into deadly actions. We urge the FBI to take this call for mass killings at houses of worship seriously and to take appropriate legal action that will send a message to all those promoting or contemplating acts of violence against minority communities.”
He said CAIR is urging houses of worship to take extra security precautions using its “Best Practices for Mosque and Community Safety” booklet. The advice in CAIR’s security publication is applicable to religious institutions of all faiths.

CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
