CAIR-NY APPLAUDS HIRING OF NYPD MUSLIM CHAPLAIN
(NEW YORK, NY, 4/2/07) – The New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY) today applauded the NYPD’s hiring of Muslim chaplain Khalid Latif.
“Mr. Latif’s new position with the NYPD underscores the increased numbers of Muslim Americans actively engaged in law enforcement,” said CAIR-NY’s Civil Rights Director Maryam Sayar Akbar. “Moreover, it emphasizes the department’s and New York City’s diversity and religious pluralism.”
CAIR-NY welcomes the City’s recognition of Muslim Americans as vital contributors to the welfare of society and encourages similar efforts throughout New York.
