The New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY) today condemned a reported attack on a subway train in which the alleged assailant made anti-Asian remarks and punched the victim in the face. The suspect reportedly fled the train.
“We condemn this allegedly bias-motivated attack and stand in solidarity with the Asian American community and all other minority communities targeted by rising bigotry nationwide,” said CAIR-NY Executive Director Afaf Nasher.
She noted that last month, CAIR-NY welcomed a hate crime charge brought against a suspect who allegedly attacked a Muslim woman on a subway train platform in April.
Nasher said CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging anti-Jewish bias, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
