(NEW YORK, NY, 12/24/19) — The New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY), a leading Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned the allegedly bias-motivated attack on an Orthodox Jewish man in Manhattan.
According to reports, yesterday a 65-year-old Orthodox Jewish wearing a black yarmulke was punched in the face after he heard someone yell “(expletive removed) you Jew (expletive removed).” The man reportedly fell to the ground and the attacker continued the attack by kicking the victim in the face and torso.
The perpetrator was taken into custody and the NYPD’s hate crime task force is treating the attack as a hate crime.

In a statement, CAIR-NY Litigation Director Ahmed Mohamed said:
“Anti-Semitism in any form is unacceptable. CAIR-NY offers sympathy to the victim and appreciation to the NYPD's Hate Crimes Task Force for its quick response in apprehending the alleged perpetrator. As we have stated many times, an attack on one of us is an attack on all of us. We continue to stand and defend our fellow community members in the face of growing xenophobia and bigotry.”
Individuals in New York are asked to report any bias incidents to police and to CAIR-NY at (646) 665-7599, or by filing a report at: http://www.cair-ny.org/incident-report/
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
