CAIR-NY, Muslim Community Leaders to Gather for Oscar Morel First Degree Murder Sentencing

(NEW YORK, NY, 6/6/18) — Today, the New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY) and other Muslim community groups will hold a press availability following Oscar Morel’s double murder sentencing.

On March 23rd, Morel was convicted of murder in the first degree for the 2016 deaths of Imam Maulana Ala’Uddin Akonjee and Thara Uddin. CAIR-NY serves as civil counsel and media representative for the Akonjee and Uddin families. Morel faces a maximum sentence of life imprisonment, without the possibility of parole.
