CAIR-OH Welcomes Temporary Block of Discriminatory Voter Law in Ohio

The Northern Ohio chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Ohio), a chapter of the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, applauds Federal Judge Soloman Oliver Jr.’s decision to block House Bill 54 (HB54) which requires naturalized citizens to show proof of citizenship when registering to vote motor vehicle offices.

HB 54 was signed into law by Governor Mike DeWine in March of 2025. A lawsuit was filed by Red, Wine & Blue against Secretary of State, Frank LaRose. On Aug. 25, Judge Oliver Jr. issued an injunction to temporarily block HB 54 which went into effect immediately.
