The Ohio chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Ohio) today welcomed the termination of a Fremont Fire Department captain who was dismissed following an internal report of racist statements.
The dismissal came after members of the Fremont Fire Department reported their captain for making anti-minority and racist remarks, prompting swift administrative action and his subsequent termination.
In a statement, CAIR-Ohio Executive Director Khalid Turaani said:
“We commend the members of the Fremont Fire Department for speaking out against alleged hatred within their ranks, as well as the department’s leadership for taking decisive action. First responders hold a sacred trust to protect and serve all members of the community equally, regardless of race, faith, or background. Zero tolerance for bigotry is essential to maintaining public trust and ensuring a safe, inclusive workplace for every civil servant.”
Washington, D.C.-based CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
