CAIR-OK, ACLU of Oklahoma to Announce Landmark Litigation Against ‘Muslim-Free’ Gun Range

CAIR OK(OKLAHOMA CITY, OK, 2/16/2016) – On Wednesday, February 17, the Council on American-Islamic Relations Oklahoma Chapter (CAIR-OK) and the American Civil Liberties Union of Oklahoma (ACLU of OK) will hold a news conference in Oklahoma City to announce the filing of landmark litigation against a so-called “Muslim-free†gun range in Oktaha, Okla.

The Muslim plaintiff in the lawsuit will take part in the news conference.

Wednesday’s news conference comes after CAIR-OK challenged the “Muslim-free†gun range for violating civil rights law by displaying a sign stating that Muslims were banned from the facility.

“For an establishment to ban someone based on their religion is not just reprehensible – it is against the law,†said Veronica Laizure, civil rights director for CAIR-OK. “We hope that these owners and others around the country will comply with civil rights law and stop refusing service to customers in this discriminatory and unconstitutional manner.â€

Last year, CAIR’s national office called on the U.S. Department of Justice to address the growing number of businesses nationwide that have been declared a “Muslim-free zone.†CAIR said that such declarations came from businesses in New York, Kentucky, Florida, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and New Hampshire.
