The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today released its latest CAIR on AIR podcast featuring an interview with Dr. Muhammad Wajid Akhtar, a British Muslim who serves as Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Britain, the United Kingdom’s largest Muslim umbrella organization representing hundreds of mosques, charities, schools, and community organizations.
In today’s episode of CAIR On AIR, Dr. Akhtar answers questions about
- The rise of the far-right, anti-Muslim Reform Party and what it would mean for the British Muslim community
- The fracturing of the Labor Party due largely to its support for the Gaza genocide and similarities to American political developments
- The state of British Muslim political engagement, accomplishments and challenges, and what Muslims in other western nations can learn from events in the UK.
Dr. Akhtar breaks down the major factors fueling support for political movements targeting Muslims and immigrants. He explains why the right wing has become more effective at creating division and why progressive movements have struggled to counter hate movements.
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
