(PORTLAND, OREGON, 11/2/18) The Oregon chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Oregon) today applauded the fundraising platform GivingFuel for permanently removing the fundraising page of the fascist group Patriot Prayer from its website.
GivingFuel found Patriot Prayer committed multiple violations of its Terms of Usage, including advocating and celebrating violence.
In a statement, CAIR-Oregon Spokesperson Zakir Khan said:
“We applaud this courageous act by GivingFuel in removing Patriot Prayer from its fundraising platform. In meeting with GivingFuel and its leadership team, the concern for Portlandlanders and marginalized communities was apparent.
Patriot Prayer has been responsible for repeated violent, terrorizing acts in Portland, Oregon and Vancouver, Washington. The people in our communities have felt unsafe by its threatening statements and dangerous behaviors. This paramilitary violence must be stopped.
When businesses cooperate with community and social justice organizations, this allows us to overcome the rising tide of hate in this country. We hope more entities and agencies will learn from GivingFuel’s example of engaging with marginalized communities to work towards productive solutions in stemming the flow of funds to fascist paramilitary groups.
We’re also grateful for all of the support we received from allies all across the country that advocated for the removal of Patriot Prayer from the GivingFuel platform.”
Last month, CAIR-Oregon called for GivingFuel to remove Patriot Prayer from its donation platform.
CAIR is America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
