CAIR-Oregon Calls on GivingFuel to Ban ‘Patriot Prayer’ from Fundraising Over Rooftop Snipers at Protest

(PORTLAND, OR, 10/16/18) The Oregon chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Oregon) today called on the crowdfunding site GivingFuel to ban the group “Patriot Prayer” from raising funds on that website after it emerged that the far-right group set up snipers targeting the public and anti-fascist protesters at an August 4th rally in Portland. In addition, the group as recently as Sunday was responsible for more violence in Portland.

In a statement, CAIR-Oregon Spokesperson Zakir Khan said:

“GivingFuel should immediately prevent Patriot Prayer from being able to fundraise through its platform. GivingFuel bills itself as a platform for nonprofits, churches and charities. To allow a hate group to use its platform to funnel money for operations that lead to the endangerment of others is disappointing. GivingFuel should act more responsibly.

“In addition, Patriot Prayer is apparently in violation of multiple policies that GivingFuel has instituted against hate groups using its platform.  We previously contacted GivingFuel and encouraged them to drop Patriot Prayer from their platform back in August. GivingFuel must urgently enforce their terms of service, otherwise we will encourage other groups to withdraw from using them as a service.”

CAIR is America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.

La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
