CAIR-Oregon Commends Senator Merkley for Statement on Rohingya Crisis

(PORTLAND, OREGON, 9/15/17) — The Oregon chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Oregon) today commended Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR) for his statement asking Burma to cease its persecution of the Rohingya Muslim people.

CAIR-Oregon has been working with the Rohingya community in Oregon since the beginning of the current crisis. The Washington-based Muslim civil rights organization is organizing a rally with Oregon United for Rohingya on September 24 between 2-5 p.m. at Pioneer Square (701 SW 6th Ave, Portland, Oregon).

“The genocide currently occurring in Burma requires all of us to stand up for the Rohingya community,” said Zakir Khan, CAIR-Oregon spokesperson. “We are grateful for Senator Merkley’s leadership on this issue and call on all Oregonians to stand with us at this upcoming rally to show the Rohingya that we stand for a world of love over hate.”
