In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “Make things easy and convenient and don’t make them harsh and difficult. Give cheer and glad tidings and do not create hatred.”
CAIR Publishes New Islamophobia.org Profile of Marjorie Taylor Greene | CAIR OP-ED: Congress Should Reform the Unconstitutional ‘Terrorism’ Watchlist | CAIR-KY Supports Bill to Enhance Hate Crime Legislation
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today published a profile on Marjorie Taylor Greene (MTG) on its Islamophobia.org website.
Both prior to and during her time in Congress, Marjorie Taylor Greene has made repeated anti-Muslim, racist and antisemitic statements, and has targeted Muslim members of Congress such as Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Rashida Tlaib (D-MI).
In February 2021, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to censure and remove Greene from her committee assignments due to her many extreme, bigoted, and threatening statements.
Greene recently attended an event organized by a white nationalist at which attendees cheered Vladimir Putin and praised Adolf Hitler.
CAIR’s Islamophobia.org profile states in part:
“MTG’s Islamophobia well predates her time in Congress. MTG suggested that Muslims do not belong in the U.S. government and has indulged in and promoted widely debunked conspiracy theories.”
In a statement, CAIR Research and Advocacy Coordinator Huzaifa Shahbaz said:
“Marjorie Taylor Greene has consistently exhibited extreme anti-Muslim, racist and antisemitic views. Her actions and statements are completely beyond the pale of acceptability for a member of Congress who is tasked with fairly representing the interests of all constituents in her district.
“We urge Republican leaders – including House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy – to strongly condemn her and ensure she is not reinstated to committee positions. Leader McCarthy should reverse his pledge to put her back on committees.”
CAIR OP-ED: Congress Should Reform the Unconstitutional ‘Terrorism’ Watchlist
For years, our organization has called on Congress to work with the White House to adopt a TSDB inclusion standard that precludes innocent people – persons who have not been arrested, charged, or convicted of a terrorism-related offense – from being listed on the TSDB.
The federal government should also implement due process protections for individuals listed on the TSDB.
We also believe that Congress should support legislation that would prohibit the dissemination of the TSDB to foreign governments, private individuals and corporations and state and local police officers.
Now is the time for Congress pay better attention to and reform the terrorism watchlist. Inevitably, this reform will happen. It is only a question of when and not if.

“Given Ms. DeMaster’s past support for efforts to enshrine anti-Muslim bigotry into law, the city should have investigated whether she could fairly uphold the law for all Milwaukee residents,” CAIR Deputy Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell said in a statement. “The city’s failure to do so sent a message that the constitutional rights of American Muslims were not important to city officials.”

CAIR Welcomes Move to Remove Nashville Confederate Monument from Park
Metro Nashville Parks and Recreation Board served public notice Tuesday that it plans to petition the Tennessee Historical Commission for a waiver to remove the sculpture.
“Public spaces should be used to honor those who made our nation a better place, not traitors who sought to maintain slavery and white supremacy,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. “We welcome this effort to remove a symbol of the racist Confederacy.”
CAIR-Kentucky Supports Bill to Enhance Hate Crime Legislation
The legislation, introduced this week by Democratic Kentucky Senators Morgan McGarvey and Gerald Neal, proposes extended prison sentences for crimes proven to be committed with a bias motive.
“What’s on the books now, which is characterized as hate crime legislation, is not effective in any way,” Sen. Neal said in a Tuesday press conference. The two lawmakers have proposed similar legislation in the past.
In a statement, CAIR-Kentucky Board Chair Salah Shakir said:
“In Kentucky and nationwide, bias-motivated crimes targeting members of minority communities are on the rise. Effective hate crime legislation is essential for law enforcement and judicial authorities to be able to properly address this issue.”
