CAIR, SAALT, Civil Rights Partners, Members of Congress to Hold Vigil in Honor of Victims of Hate Violence

CAIR logo(WASHINGTON, D.C., 3/9/17) – On Friday, March 10, The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) will join South Asian Americans Leading Together (SAALT) and a number of other civil rights organizations* will hold a vigil with members of Congress on the steps of the Capitol in Washington, D.C., to honor and bring national attention to the victims of hate violence in South Asian, Sikh, Muslim, Arab-American communities across the country. 

WHEN: Friday, March 10, 3:30 – 4:30 p.m.

WHERE: Capitol Steps on House of Representatives Side (The easiest way to enter is at the intersection of Independence and New Jersey Ave. SE.)

MEMBERS OF CONGRESS: Confirmed members of Congress include Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal (D-WA), Congressmen Ami Bera (D-CA) and Joe Crowley (D-NY)

CAIR has reported an unprecedented spike in hate incidents targeting Muslims and other minority groups since the November 8th election. A soon-to-be-published CAIR report on Islamophobia in America is expected to show that 2016 was the worst year on record for incidents in which mosques were targets of bias.
