(San Diego, CA, 10/18/13) — The San Diego Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-SD) announced the release of its “2013 Special Mayoral Election Voter Guide for San Diego,” designed to encourage San Diego Muslim voters to participate in next month's special mayoral election.
The guide offers a simple comparison of the candidates running for mayor. CAIR-San Diego prepared questions for all of the mayoral candidates that would help inform Muslim voters before the November 19 special election.
The information in the guide is intended to provide a limited and general proï¬le that we hope will assist San Diego Muslim voters to better understand the attitudes of the candidates towards the issues that matter to our community. CAIR-San Diego does not support or oppose any candidate for public office. The information in this guide is provided for educational purposes only.
CAIR-SD encourages all elligible voters to register to vote. The deadline to register or to change your address is November 4 in order to receive a ballot for the November 19 San Diego mayoral election.
Community members can pick up a copy of the voter guides from their local mosques or by contacting CAIR-San Diego. CAIR-San Diego’s other voter empowerment efforts this year have included distributing “get out the vote” material, holding voter registration drives at local mosques, and voter education and candidates' forums.
CAIR-San Diego Executive Director Hanif Mohebi recently spoke to community members about the importance of civic engagement, saying: “Voting is power. We must vote and teach our children to use this valuable democratic tool to empower our community.”
CAIR is America's largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
