(SAN DIEGO, CA, 4/11/16) – On Tuesday, April 12, the San Diego office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-San Diego) will hold a press conference to announce the filing of public accommodation complaints with the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH) against Belmont Park after Muslim women wearing Islamic head scarves (hijab) were reportedly denied access to a ride.
[NOTE: CAIR is also seeking a response from the city of San Diego, which is believed to own the property and may receive compensation from ticket sales at Belmont Park.]
The complaints allege violations of California's Unruh Civil Rights Act based on Belmont Park's unwillingness to permit park attendees wearing Islamic head scarves to ride the “Beach Blaster.†CAIR-San Diego’s filing alleges that two Muslim women were refused access to the ride and that no signs are posted indicating Belmont Park's alleged safety concerns.
