Later today (July 22), the San Diego chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-San Diego), a chapter of the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, will hold a news conference outside Mingei International Museum to celebrate “Palestinian Resistance Through Art.”
The museum reportedly postponed an event with that theme scheduled for today as part of its Community Monday’s series after “security concerns” caused by supporters of Israel’s genocide in Gaza who threatened a protest.

In a statement, CAIR-San Diego Executive Director Tazheen Nizam said:
“We have decided to move forward with the ‘Palestinian Resistance Through Art’ event outside the Mingei International Museum because the Palestinian people are being targeted by a cruel genocide, enabled by the Biden administration, and cannot wait until the Fall or Winter for an end to the death, destruction and suffering.
“We are deeply disappointed by the last-minute postponement by the museum. Our commitment to the community, our attendees and Palestinian human rights remains unwavering, and we are excited to proceed with the event regardless of the pressure from supporters of genocide.
“We look forward to celebrating art as an aspect of collective resilience and determination in the face of violence and oppression.”
