screenshot 2017 11 20 12 58 45 137(SANTA CLARA, CA, 11/20/17) — The San Francisco Bay Area chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-SFBA) today announced the launch of its new Immigrants’ Rights Program.

For more than 20 years, CAIR-SFBA has provided civil rights legal services to individuals facing discrimination because of their Muslim identity. Now CAIR-SFBA is expanding its legal services to include immigration services.

The CAIR-SFBA office will join CAIR’s Greater Los Angeles Area (CAIR-LA) office in offering low-cost or pro bono legal assistance for citizenship, adjustment of status, family petitions, asylum, Temporary Protected Status (TPS), T-Visas, U-Visas, and Violence against Women Act (VAWA) self-petitions.

In 2016, CAIR-LA assisted in more than 400 immigration applications, with an increase of 58 percent in naturalization petitions from the previous year.

SEETypes of Cases We Handle

“Given the ways Muslim immigrants have been specifically targeted by discriminatory policies, we believe it is essential to provide access to high quality low-cost immigration legal services to the Muslim community,” said CAIR SFBA Immigrants’ Rights Attorney Brittney Rezaei. “This program will seek to provide individual representation in immigration matters in addition to continuing our work advocating for policies to protect immigrants.”

Individuals in need of immigration legal services are urged to contact CAIR-SFBA at 408.986.9874 or via the web.

CAIR San Francisco Bay Area is a chapter of CAIR, America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
