CAIR Seeks Disciplinary Action Against Tennessee Judge Who Shared Anti-Immigrant, Anti-Muslim Posts by Holocaust Denier

(WASHINGTON, D.C., 5/2/19) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on the Tennessee Board of Judicial Conduct to discipline Memphis Criminal Court Judge Jim Lammey for a pattern of sharing anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim posts, some from a notorious Holocaust denier.

According to reports, many of the posts shared on the judge’s personal Facebook page make unfounded claims portraying immigrants as welfare abusers, vote fraudsters or threats to civilization.

According to those reports, a link posted on the judge’s personal Facebook page on April 5, 2019, led to an article entitled “Stop with the Golems, Already!” by notorious Holocaust denier David Cole. The article calls Muslim immigrants “foreign mud.” The article also criticizes the “integration craze” in public schools and says Jews should “get the f— over the Holocaust.”

On February 3, Lammey reportedly posted a meme with a mug shot of a tough-looking Hispanic man and false statistics blaming “illegals” for lots of crime.

A Tennessee court rule says judges can’t show prejudice based on factors such as “race, sex, gender, religion, national origin, ethnicity, disability, age, sexual orientation, marital status, socioeconomic status, or political affiliation . . .”

“Judge Lammey’s comments are based on the same discredited white supremacist conspiracy theories that allegedly motivated the terrorists who targeted houses of worship in this country and overseas,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. “It would be impossible for Judge Lammey to rule in an objective manner while actively promoting anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim conspiracy theories on his social media. Appropriate disciplinary action must be taken to ensure fairness in Tennessee’s courts.”

He noted that on Monday, the first day of Ramadan, CAIR will release a one-of-its-kind report detailing a list of philanthropic foundations, many of them mainstream, that were used by anonymous special interest donors to funnel almost $125 million between 2014 and 2016 to anti-Muslim hate groups.

The Washington-based Muslim civil rights organization has reported an unprecedented spike in bigotry targeting American Muslims, immigrants and members of other minority groups since the election of Donald Trump as president.

CAIR is America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.

La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
