(SANTA CLARA, CA, 8/13/07) – Later today (August 13), the San Francisco Bay Area chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-SFBA) will hold a news conference in reaction to an arson attack on a Northern California mosque.

CAIR-SFBA reports that the fire occurred early Sunday at the Islamic Center of the East Bay in Antioch, Calif. Fire officials told CAIR that the blaze, which caused an estimated $200,000 damage, is being investigated as an act of arson. Mosque officials said there was also a break-in at the center several days ago.
The Islamic Center of the East Bay has been targeted repeatedly by vandals, including shots being fired through windows and walls of the center.

Earlier this month, CAIR called on law enforcement authorities in Arizona to investigate an attack on worshipers outside a mosque in Glendale, Ariz., as a possible bias crime.

Other recent incidents have included an arson attack on a Bosnian Muslim family’s home in Florida.
