(SANTA CLARA, CA, 7/30/2020) – The San Francisco Bay Area office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-SFBA) today condemned suspected arson and property damage at Way Christian Church in Berkeley.
Local news reports there was property damage and a trash can set on fire at 1 a.m. on the back of the church soon after Pastor Michael McBride put up a Black Lives Matter banner. The Berkeley Police Department has opened an arson investigation.

CAIR-SFBA Executive Director Zahra Billoo said in a statement:
“We condemn this act of property damage and possible arson targeting a place of worship. We express our deepest solidarity with the church community and commend Pastor Michael McBride for his deep leadership and work challenging injustice. We call on city officials to investigate the incident as a possible hate crime.”
