(WASHINGTON, D.C., 1/10/19) – On Friday, January 11, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, will co-sponsor a rally to demand the closure of the Guantanamo Bay detention facility with the theme “Rule of Law, Not Rule of Trump.”

The rally marks the 17th anniversary of the opening of the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay. Forty prisoners remain in the detention camp, including five who have been approved by the U.S. government for transfer.
Coalition members include Amnesty International USA, Center for Constitutional Rights, Close Guantanamo, Codepink, Defending Rights and Dissent, Just Foreign Policy, Justice for Muslims Collective, Muslim Wellness Foundation, National Religious Campaign Against Torture, Reprieve, School of the Americas Watch, September 11 Families for Peaceful Tomorrows, Witness Against Torture, and World Can’t Wait.
