(BALTIMORE, Md., 10/28/2021) – Earlier this week, CAIR, America’s leading Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, presented at the annual Maryland Cultural Proficiency Conference to train educators on cultural competency in the education of Muslim students.
“Our office regularly receives complaints from Muslim students and families reporting microaggressions in the school place targeting their religion and ethnicity,” said CAIR’s Maryland Director Zainab Chaudry, who led the presentation. “Our goal with this training is to educate teachers on the scope of the problem, common stereotypes and misconceptions that exist about Islam and ways they can identify and create safe, inclusive learning environments for Muslim children.”
Last month, CAIR condemned a 9/11-related incident involving a Howard County Public School student and called on the school system to investigate.
