The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed the arrest of a Virginia man who allegedly had “a stockpile of more than 150 homemade improvised explosive devices, assessed as pipe bombs” – reportedly “the largest seizure by number of finished explosive devices in FBI history.”

Prosecutors said the suspect “has used pictures of the President for target practice, expressed support for political assassinations, and recently sought qualifications in sniper-rifle shooting at a local range.”
In a statement, CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad said: “We welcome the arrest of this suspect and urge law enforcement authorities to continue to seek out those who may be driven by extremist ideologies to harm public officials.”
He noted that earlier today, CAIR joined the New Orleans Muslim community in mourning the victims of the Bourbon Street attack on New Year’s Day and reiterating its longstanding condemnation of Daesh and other extremists that encourage such violence.
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
