The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed a ceasefire in Lebanon that ends the Israeli government’s bombing of civilians and repeated its call for an end to the Gaza genocide.
In a statement, CAIR said:
“Although we welcome an end to the Israeli government’s indiscriminate bombing of civilians in Lebanon, President Biden’s refusal to stop supplying the weapons fueling the fugitive war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu’s genocide in Gaza represents a stunning failure of leadership and disregard for both American and international law. Until the Gaza genocide ends and the Palestinian people receive freedom, there will be neither justice nor true peace. Any future diplomatic efforts must also address the root cause of the instability in that region: the Israeli occupation and the dispossession of the Palestinian people.”
Last week, CAIR applauded the ICC decision to reject outside pressure and issue arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former defense minister for war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Gaza genocide.
Earlier this month, CAIR said that it considers President Biden a “war criminal” after his decision to continue sending weapons to the Israeli government after it flouted Biden’s 30-day deadline to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza.
