CAIR Welcomes Firing of Louisiana Officer Over Racist COVID-19 Comments

(WASHINGTON, D.C., 5/21/20) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed the firing of a Louisiana police officer after he posted racist Facebook comments about COVID-19 and African-Americans.

Below a live feed of the governor’s press conference Friday, a commenter posted “Virus that was created to kill all the blacks is death.” In response, Kaplan Police Department Officer Steven Aucoin commented: “Well it didn’t work, then again he commented, “how unfortunate.”

After an investigation, Officer Aucoin was fired.
