(WASHINGTON D.C., 9/14/2022) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed the induction of Malcolm X as the first Black honoree to the Nebraska Hall of Fame.
Malcolm X, who later became known as El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz, was born in Omaha, Nebraska. The Nebraska Hall of Fame approved the civil rights leader’s nomination on Monday in a 4-3 vote. Malcolm X was initially nominated to the hall of fame in 2004 and then again in 2007, but was rejected both times.
