(WASHINGTON, D.C., 2/14/2023) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed comments by Secretary of State Antony Blinken opposing the far-right Israeli government’s decision to legalize several settlements in the West Bank and announce plans to build 10,000 settlements on Palestinian land.
Secretary Antony Blinken said the Biden administration is “deeply troubled” by an Israeli decision to officially legalize 9 outposts in the West Bank and plans to construct 10,000 settlements.

In a statement, CAIR Deputy Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell said:
“While we welcome Secretary Blinken’s opposition to the far-right Israeli government’s illegal and escalating settlement project, comments are not enough.
“For decades, the Israeli governments have been emboldened by the belief that the United States will not hold them accountable, no matter what they do.
“Our nation must take concrete action to oppose the Israel apartheid government’s action. As a start, the Biden administration should allow the UN Security Council to pass a resolution condemning these escalating crimes against the Palestinian people.”
Mitchell also condemned the killing of a Palestinian teenager in the West Bank by Israeli forces today, the latest of numerous Palestinian children killed over the past year.
