(HOUSTON, TX, 12/4/15) â€“ On Friday, December 4, the Bay Area Unitarian Universalist Church (BAUUC) along with the Unitarian Universalist Voices for Justice of Houston will hold a rally in Webster, Texas, in support of local Muslims and a nearby mosque.Â Joining the rally will be members of 8 Unitarian Universalist churches and the National President of the Unitarian Universalist Association, Reverend Peter Morales.
“We want to send a message to our community about the need for respect and affirmation of religious diversity,” said BAUUC Reverend Bruce Beisner.
BAUUC neighbors the Clear Lake Islamic Center. The rally will be held at the entrance to private road that leads to both the mosque and the church from the main road. The rally is to be held between 1 pm and 3 pm when members of the mosque will be able to see the messages of support as they pass by on their way to attend Friday prayers. The rally had been scheduled prior to the recent mass shooting in San Bernardino, California.Â

â€œThe rally is an excellent show of support of their Muslim neighbors,â€ said CAIR-Texas Board Chairman Kaleem Siddiqui. â€œWe need to see more good freedom loving Americans stand up for their fellow Americans like this.â€
CAIR noted comes at a time when anti-Muslim backlash is at a high.
CAIR is Americaâ€™s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
