CAIR Welcomes Transfer of Guantanamo Prisoner to Tunisia, Repeats Call for Facility’s Closure

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed the transfer of a Tunisian man who was never charged with a crime out of the Guantánamo Bay military prison in Cuba to Tunisia more than a decade after he was approved for release.

Ridah bin Saleh al-Yazidi, 59, had been held at Guantánamo without charge since it was opened in 2002.

In a statement, CAIR said: “We welcome this latest transfer of an individual who was held for more than two decades without charge and again urge that this international symbol of injustice be closed immediately.”
