CAIR Welcomes Wisconsin Hate Crime Sentencing for Anti-Immigrant Acid Attack

(WASHINGTON D.C., 5/18/2022) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed the sentencing of a Wisconsin man convicted of throwing acid in the face of another man in a bias-motivated attack.

Clifton Blackwell, 64, was sentenced to 10 years in prison after being convicted last month of first-degree reckless injury as a hate crime for throwing acid in the face of Peruvian immigrant who is a U.S. citizen in 2019. Blackwell called the victim “an illegal” and told him to go back to his country.
