CAIR Welcomes Withdrawal of Anti-Muslim, Racist Louisiana Board Nominee, Condemns Nazi Banner in Arizona

(WASHINGTON, D.C., 8/5/2020) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned a Nazi banner put up in Arizona and also welcomed the withdrawal of a Louisiana board nomination for a woman who shared racist and anti-Muslim social media posts.

Josh Guillory was criticized after he appointed Connie Boyer who has made openly racist, sexist, and xenophobic remarks on Facebook. Boyer was reportedly appointed to the Heymann Performing Arts & Frem Boustany Convention Center Advisory Commission by Mayor-President Guillory. Since receiving criticism, he has reportedly rescinded her nomination.

Boyer shared a post that referred to President Obama as a “Muslim President” who created “Muslim districts so those 4 Muslims could have seats in our Congress.”

CAIR’s Arizona chapter Director Imraan Siddiqi tweeted: “We stand with our Jewish brothers and sisters against this horrific act of hate. Overt displays of Nazi imagery such as this are a signal of the unfettered hate that is permeating our state.”

Washington-based CAIR and the American Muslim community are standing in solidarity with all those challenging anti-Black racism, Islamophobia, anti-Semitism, and white supremacy.
