(WASHINGTON D.C., 12/1/2021) – Tomorrow (Dec. 2) at 3 p.m. ET, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) will host a Facebook live discussion on Sapelo Island, a Gullah community off the coast of Georgia founded by Bilali Muhammad, a freed Muslim slave, over a century ago.
The program will feature guests Reginald Hall and JR Grovner, Sapelo residents and activists working to protect the island and the community from efforts to buy up Gullah ancestral lands and develop them for profit.
The show will cover the history of the island, attempts to preserve it and the importance of the island to American Muslim history. The guests will also discuss the verdict of the Ahmaud Arbery trial. Arbery was a descendant of Bilali Muhammad.
