DC: 350+ Delegates to Lobby Congress During National Muslim Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill

(WASHINGTON, D.C, 4/26/17) – On Monday, May 1, through Tuesday, May 2, more than 350 Muslims from 26 states will take part in the third annual National Muslim Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.

Hosted by the U.S. Council of Muslim Organizations (USCMO), a coalition of leading national and local Muslim organizations, the two-day event is designed to connect national, regional and state Muslim organizations and community members with their elected representatives in Congress.

USCMO’S advocacy day will focus on promoting a legislative agenda in support of equality and social justice issues that will be of benefit to all Americans, regardless of faith or background.

Some of these issues include:

Ӣ A round-up endorsement of all legislation pushing back against federal policies and programs wrongfully targeting Muslims.
”¢ Supporting DREAMers and raising concerns about the Secure Communities program’s impact on civil liberties and immigrant communities
Ӣ Endorsing the End Racial and Religious Profiling Act

Last year’s event was attended by 330 delegates from 28 states who met with some 225 congressional offices – one third of the House of Representatives and almost half of the Senate.
